There are many advantages to living in a residential or suburban area, but it is not without its drawbacks. While generally most families choose to live in these neighbourhoods due to the high levels of peace and quiet, certain streets frequently get overloaded with traffic at certain times of the day or week. Main roads that go near schools, hospitals, day-care centres, swimming pools, beaches, gyms and other community gathering areas are often filled with cars.

Most municipalities will at some point consider installing traffic control products such as speed humps or bollards to control this type of traffic. If your area has nothing of the sort in place and you feel that your children or family is in danger, then you might want to contact other concerned residents on your street or in your neighbourhood who will band together and petition the local government to do something about the problem.

How To Slow Traffic Down

There are many ways to slow traffic down using traffic control supplies. Speed humps can be installed on main roads that go through busy areas. They are best placed halfway between intersections when cars will be tempted to speed up. They will be able to reduce traffic to low speeds between 15-20 km/h, which are not fast enough to cause death in most collisions and will still allow drivers to react to things on the road.

In some residential side roads, especially in a cul-de-sac for example, residents may not even want unwanted traffic ever. In this case, it might be possible to have bollards or other Traffic control products installed at the entrance to your court or place. This way, you can be certain that only authorised vehicles (as in, residents) are able to enter the area. You may also use these to restrict parking access in certain shared buildings.
